1.1m elderly people currently live in unfit housing according to the Age UK General Election Manifesto.
The data follows the formation of the Housing Made for Everyone (HoME) coalition, of which Age UK is a part, aiming to combat the crisis inaccessible homes.
In its manifesto, Age UK called for the government to build significantly more social housing for those in need with a requirement for the homes to be built to the lifetime homes standards.
Those living in unfit housing experience a range of issues including damp, rot and electrical and plumbing problems as well as a lack of access to key equipment and care.
With a general election on the horizon, the social care crisis looms over each party as they set their campaigns in motion.
