A 90-year-old Penarth lady has been named Volunteer of the Year by Methodist Homes (MHA).
Esme Mason volunteers with the MHA Penarth Live at Home scheme in South Wales, and has done for the last 50 years.
Mason was presented with the award at the Outstanding Service Contribution and Recognition (OSCAR) Awards.
In her time with the charity she has volunteered teaching sewing and knitting classes, and has prepared and served food.
Mason said: “I never expected anything like the award I got, just for doing something that I love. The people I meet are all lovely and that is a true reward in itself.”
Linda Brownhill, Live at Home scheme manager, said: “Esme is a true legend and all of us at Live at Home love her to bits. She loves helping people enjoy time at our ay centre and always does it with such a wonderful smile on her face.”
The MHA has been a charity for over 75 years, and relies on the voluntary efforts of people like Esme Mason to continue helping people.
