Bluebird Care branches set up taxi service to protect live-in carers from COVID-19

Bluebird Care – taxi

Two Bluebird Care branches based in West Berkshire and North Hampshire are working with a local taxi driver to ensure that live-in care assistants and their clients are kept safe from the risks associated with COVID-19.

The branches have employed the services of Lambourn-based driver Kelvin Pottinger to transport their live-in carers to and from their customers.

Sammie Carr, Bluebird Care’s Live-in Care manager, said this means care workers can avoid taking public transport and be confident that they are being transported in a safe environment.

She explained: “Kelvin is meticulous in making sure that his vehicle is fully sanitised before and after each journey and follows government guidance on infection prevention and control, including the donning of full PPE.

“He is also included in our weekly COVID-19 testing programme that all our staff have been accessing since before Christmas.  His professionalism ensures that all our live-in care assistants can be transported to and from their customers safely which in turn minimises any risk of infection and keeps our customers safe”.

This is one of the many measures that Bluebird Care West Berkshire and Bluebird Care North Hampshire have adopted during the pandemic, including the weekly testing of all care and office staff.

The branches have also announced that 99% of their staff have had their first COVID-19 vaccine dose.

John Prendergast, director of Bluebird Care West Berkshire and Bluebird Care North Hampshiresaid: “Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our staff and our customers is our number one priority and we are delighted that Kelvin is playing a big part in helping us achieve this.”
