Laura Alcock-Ferguson is stepping down from the role of executive director of the Campaign to End Loneliness, after nine years at the helm.
Alcock-Ferguson is a keen advocate for the issue of loneliness and has worked to promote it as an issue in need of recognition and action form policy makers and service providers since the Campaign’s inception in 2010.
She will move onto a new leadership role later this year and will be with the Campaign until 31 July.
Commenting on her departure, she said: “So many people I have worked with have been an inspiration to me, from older people I have met, researchers, funders, local groups combating loneliness or colleagues working overseas, and have been a major part of that movement for change on loneliness. Awareness of the issue of loneliness has grown hugely in the last decade, and seeing it through to firm policy commitments from UK-wide governments has been a particularly satisfying part of my last few years here”.
In a statement, the Campaign said it will recruit an executive director “shortly”.
“In the coming months, the Campaign’s senior management team – Kate Shurety, Director of Development and Communications and Robin Hewings, Director of Campaigns, Policy and Research – will ensure our plans for this year remain on course and the team as a whole (including recent new recruits) will focus on working in partnership, championing the issue and sharing research and innovation at our upcoming events,” the organisation said.
Estelle McCartney, who is chair of the Campaign to End Loneliness’ Management Group and an Independent Age Trustee said: “There is still much more to be done and the Campaign continues to work on these issues across the UK.
“In the meantime, I would like to extend my thanks to Laura on behalf of Independent Age and our Trustees for all the dedication, passion and work she has put into the Campaign from its inception. I wish her all the very best in her future and congratulations on her appointment as Chief Executive of another organisation – they are very lucky to have recruited her.”
