Captain Sir Tom Moore turns podcast host in bid to tackle loneliness

Captain Sir Tom Moore

Captain Sir Tom Moore, who famously raised over £30 million for NHS Charities Together during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown, is on a new mission to tackle loneliness among older people.

Sir Tom has become one of Britain’s oldest podcasts hosts in a partnership with Cadbury and Age UK to help encourage the nation to start conversations with older people.

The Originals podcast sees the centenarian war veteran in conversation with older guests from across the country, each with their own interesting and surprising stories to tell, from a 79-year old woman revealing her kiss with Elvis Presley, to an award-winning, investigative journalist fighting against climate change for over half a century.

The launch is part of Cadbury and Age UK’s Donate Your Words campaign, which aims to tackle loneliness amongst the older generation.

Their research revealed that almost 2.6 million people aged 65 and over speak to three or fewer people they know in a typical week, with more than 225,000 often going a week without speaking to anyone at all.

Captain Sir Thomas Moore commented: “My mission is simple, but important.  It’s been a pleasure to join forces with Cadbury and Age UK for the Donate Your Words campaign. I hope The Originals podcast will help encourage everyone to start a proper conversation with an older person today. We truly are The Originals and believe it or not, we have more in common than you may think – we have hundreds of amazing stories just waiting to be told.”

The first Originals podcast launched on Monday (October 5) and the following three podcasts go live on October 12.
