A Right at Home care professional who was named the company’s 2019 CareGiver of the Year has delivered another act of kindness by donating her bonus to charity.
Sandra Coelho, a carer at Right at Home Welwyn, Hatfield and St Albans, was awarded the accolade at Right at Home’s annual Celebration Awards in September, 16 months after joining the business.
Franchise owners Keith and Kirsty Sheena draw two £50 bonuses for their staff each month, one for going above and beyond and the other for helping out and picking up shifts.
Coelho was selected this month and decided to donate all of the money to Right at Home’s fundraising appeal for Alzheimer’s Society.
Right at Home’s national office shared the news as part of its mission to spread the word about positive and uplifting stories from the care sector.
In a recent interview with Home Care Insight, CEO, Ken Deary, urged the media to pay attention to positive news stories about hard working staff and give them the recognition they deserve.
Speaking on her decision to donate her bonus, Coelho said: “I thought, why take the bonus when I can make a difference and support Right at Home to achieve its fundraising target for such a great cause.
Coelho has also taken part in one of Alzheimer’s Society’s Memory Walks in Watford last year and next year she has her sights set on completing a charity Skydive.
“I’ve never done anything like Skydiving before but I have always been intrigued. I asked my partner if he wanted to take part too but he said he is happy to stay on the ground,” she added.
Right at Home Welwyn, Hatfield and St Albans managing director, Keith Sheena, commented: “Sandra is one in a million. She’s a fantastic CareGiver who is loved by our clients and is committed to ensuring they are given outstanding care and an improved quality of life. She’s truly passionate about supporting the fantastic work of the Alzheimer’s Society and helping Right at Home reach its £20,000 fundraising target.”
Home Care Insight will publish a series of Good Care News about acts of kindness in the care sector from next year.
