Dame Judi Dench judges art competition for over 90s

‘Red Joan’ Portraits – 14th Zurich Film Festival

Home care service users aged 90 and over could be in with a chance of winning a cash prize by taking part in an art competition judged by Dame Judy Dench.

The Grow Old Disgracefully Trust, a charity that helps care and support settings prioritise wellbeing by promoting activities, is hosting the competition and calling for entries by August 31.

Dame Judy, along with artists Adie Parker and Sally Bulgin, will shortlist the entries, which must be entitled “Happy Times”, and the 20 best pieces of artwork will be displayed on the charity’s website.

The final winner will be announced at the end of September and will receive £200 in cash, plus a tree of their choice to be planted near their home.

To enter, participants must email a photo of their artwork to with the heading ‘Happy Times’.

They must also state their name, the age they will be at the end of August, the size of the picture and the media they have used, such as watercolour, pencil or charcoal. Artwork can also be produced digitally.
