A home care provider based in Devon has been rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission, just 18 months after opening.

The Home Instead Senior Care franchise, which cares for people living in Tavistock, Tamar Valley and the surrounding area, has been awarded the top rating for being caring and well-led following an inspection that took place in October.

The provider joins a select group of companies, with only 4% of domiciliary care providers in England having achieved this most coveted rating.

Lynn Roddy, owner of Home Instead, first launched the Tavistock and Tamar Valley office in July 2018, after personally experiencing the difficulties in finding quality and consistent care for her mother.

Commenting on the achievement, she said: “We are thrilled to have received an ‘Outstanding’ rating from the CQC. This result is because of our hard-working team and I am so pleased to see their passion and true dedication recognised in this way. I know my mother would be so proud of the work we are doing to bring personalised home care to the community.”

In their report, CQC inspectors said staff “showed a love of their jobs” and a “passion” for the people they support, keeping them “at the very heart of the service”.

Inspectors also noted how care plans were “tailored to meet the needs of individuals” and delivered to ensure “flexibility, choice and continuity of care”.

In the report, inspectors documented one example about how a local family had called upon Home Instead to help their elderly relative move out of a care home and back into their own home in order to regain independence and overall well-being, after the concerned family observed a “decline in independence”.

Home Instead worked closely with the client, the local authority, occupational therapy team and their family to create a bespoke care package to meet the individual needs of the individual.

Inspectors said that because of the “extensive and high-quality package of care” being offered, the client was able to move back into the community.

“Since staff have been supporting this client, their social engagement and overall wellbeing has greatly improved. They are now able to spend quality time with their family and engage with the local community,” the report added.

Roddy said: “We work extremely hard to carefully select staff in order to build trusting relationships with our clients and family members. We have an incredibly motivated team who live the values and ethos of Home Instead.”

  1. Very proud to work for this company. We are well supported and our clients seem very happy with the service we provide. We are not rushed so as well as the basic tasks we carry out to enable our clients to stay in their own homes we have time to interact with them chatting and socialising. I know my ladies really appreciate this. I feel this is s big part of my job.
