The family of 94 year-old woman has praised a live-in care worker from Ashridge Home Care for going the extra mile for their loved during the lockdown.
The care worker, named Vikki, is currently isolating with her client to protect her from coronavirus and has been making a special effort to lift her spirits while she is unable to see friends and family.
For her client’s 94th birthday, she hosted a traditional afternoon tea and a round of bingo over Zoom. Friends and family from Buckinghamshire, Oxford and Cumbria joined in the virtual party, including her children and grandchildren.
Praising Vikki, the family said: “She is by a country mile the best carer we’ve had for Mum. We’ve discussed this and come up with the following points about Vikki: cheerful, enthusiastic, proactive and energetic. She has high standards, provides stimulating conversation and is a good judge of how much to encourage Mum to do things.”
Ashridge Home Care shared this story as part of HCI’s Good Care News series, which aims to highlight the important contribution that care workers make to society.
Vikki joined the provider 15 months ago and was matched with her client in her first week.
Trudi Scrivener, owner of Ashridge Home Care commented: “Vikki’s client had lost her husband a couple of years previously and had since had a terrible time with other caregivers. They both now thrive on their relationship and Vikki ensures her client still lives an intellectually challenging life.
“In the current climate, they are still able to go for their once daily exercise for a good dose of Vitamin D, love to do the crossword in the Telegraph together and have been taking advantage of the free museum tours that are currently available, as well as streaming live musical theatre and playing stimulating games, such as Rummikub and Scrabble.”
