Bright Care, a growing home care provider with offices across the UK, has been named the best health and social care company to work for in 2021.

The business, headquartered in Edinburgh, was ranked first in the Best Companies to Work for List, which recognises providers’ commitment to their employees.

Spirit Health Group came second in the list, followed by Home Instead UK, The Big Life Group and Inspired Villages, a collection of retirement villages.

Speaking to TV presenter Dan Walker as part of Best Companies Live, Tim Cocking, founder and managing director of Bright Care, said: “The golden rule at Bright Care is creating that environment where everyone feels a sense of belonging, they feel connected with the team, and they are cared for and looked after. And I think the situation like what we have seen over the last year has been the opportunity for that to really prove its power.

“When people feel that sense of belonging and they know that their organisation has their back, they really excel in what they do, and we’ve felt that the team has pulled together really strongly over the last 12 months.”

Inspired by their own experience of trying to find care for an elderly family member, Tim and his wife Louise Cocking founded Bright Care in 2009 to enable people to live their later years with peace, security and purpose, in the comfort of their own homes.

The company, which has supported more than 700 families, has expanded from one office in Edinburgh to seven branches across the UK.

During the pandemic, a Here to Help service was set up so anyone could submit COVID-related queries, and weekly calls were made to carers to ensure they felt safe and secure at work.

It also provided upgraded COVID safe uniforms and equipment for more than 200 workers and worked with a local producer to create its own brand hand sanitiser, which was given out to all care staff and clients.
