A Southend home care provider has today opened a new ‘community hub’ to help older people socialise and stay active.

Doris Jones, which recently received an ‘Outstanding’ status from the CQC, has worked in partnership with Age Concern Southend to open Days at Haven in Westcliff-on-sea.

The partners have been raising funds over the last 12 months to develop the new space, which will cater for 15 people per day, as well as trained carers.

“Days at The Haven will provide a safe space for older people who need higher levels of care to take part in activities such as gentle exercise, games, art, crafts and music as well as mindfulness activities,” an Age Concern spokesperson said.

“Volunteers will be on hand alongside the team of Doris carers to help run activities and keep our guests company throughout their day.”

Days at Haven is located in what was previously the clothing section of Havens department store.

It will be open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm, and a hot, two-course lunch will be provided by Treat Street Café.
