Star of film and television Joanna Lumley has thanked care workers at Agincare for their heroic efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic, in a special video message.
The recording came after the home care provider awarded all staff – some 3,500 people – who worked through the crisis with a ‘Covid Hero Medal’ in recognition of their hard work and dedication.
Agincare is also inviting people to nominate care workers who have gone above and beyond the call of duty for a special Agincare Heroes award, with details to be announced shortly.
In her video message, Lumley said: “Since early 2020, through one of the most difficult times in our history, you have overcome extraordinary challenges and continue to care for and support the most vulnerable people in our society you’ve brought so much happiness safety and a sense of friendship to so many.
“I wish I could present this medal in person, but unfortunately, as we all know, I can’t do that, so please accept it on behalf of myself, Agincare and those who you support and their loved ones. It goes without saying that you are a hero and your hard work and dedication certainly does not go unrecognized you truly are doing an absolutely fabulous job.”
As well as the medal, Agincare team members also received a certificate and letter of appreciation from chairman Derek Luckhurst and chief executive Raina Summerson in recognition of their efforts during the pandemic, ensuring people continued to receive the care and support they needed.
Luckhurst said: “I have never felt so proud of the team that we have here at Agincare. We have had people going out, risking their lives and keeping morale up, to provide essential care across society.
“The Agincare Covid Hero Medal is a fitting way to say thank you to our teams, and a lasting tribute to their incredible efforts.”
Summerson added: “We wanted to find a heart-felt way of saying thank you and showing genuine appreciation to our Agincare team, during what has been an incredibly challenging time for them both personally and professionally.
“Everyone across all locations, including our support functions, have pulled together in a fantastic way to respond to the pandemic. They have shown true resilience, courage and commitment to social care, and we wanted to recognise that.”
