Law firm launches HELP service for care providers

Law firm Royds Withy King has launched a new service in response to “unprecedented demand” from care providers for expert HR and employment law advice with insurance protection against Employment Tribunal claims.

With recruitment and retention challenges at an all-time high, HELP has been launched to provide a flexible but comprehensive legal support package to the care sector from qualified solicitors who understand the industry.

Earlier this year, the law firm and it’s legal partner, the Care Association Alliance, reported that the care sector needs to recruit 128,000 new workers each year, or 1.3 million by 2030, to replace those who retire or leave, and to meet increasing demand, new research has found.

The study by the Care Association Alliance and law firm Royds Withy King found that one in three workers leave the sector every year –  the highest turnover rate of all job sectors in the UK.

The UK’s ageing population also means that there is an increasing demand for care workers.

James Sage, head of the Health & Social Care sector team at Royds Withy King, the legal partner of the Care Association Alliance, said: “The workforce crisis in social care, increased regulatory oversight and a substantial rise in Employment Tribunal claims means that it is more important than ever for care providers to have specialist, pragmatic and care specific advice. Our clients told us that they want a way of accessing expert legal support on demand and managing the risks to their business – and so HELP was born.

“As social care lawyers, we have significant experience  advising on all legal and regulatory issues which care providers face in the day-to-day running of their business. HELP reflects that, giving care providers the option to create an advice package that is tailored to their needs.

“We are confident that HELP will provide care providers with the peace of mind that they can get expert legal advice on demand, free up management time in dealing with tricky workforce issues, and minimise their business risk with insurance cover against Employment Tribunal claims, settlements and awards.

HELP is so-called because it bundles together HR and Employment advice, other Legal expertise such as CQC compliance, safeguarding, Mental Capacity Act/DoLS, business immigration and data protection, and insurance Protection in one innovative service.  Clients will have a dedicated Relationship Manager who is a qualified solicitor as well as access to a secure, cloud-based portal so that HR and legal documents can be stored and shared safely in real time. This also includes access to Royds Withy King’s Employment Resource Centre with HR templates, policies, guidance notes and legal updates.
