Thanks to her forethought and groundwork, Michelle Tennant ensured that Home Instead UK was ahead of the curve and ready for the pandemic that transformed the way it had to operate.
Even when the UK had no known cases of COVID-19, Michelle began following the progress of the virus. She called for meetings with senior members of staff and pushed for a clear and well-developed plan in case the situation worsened.
Michelle released a ‘pandemic planning document’, which covered how the whole of the franchise network would respond if the crisis escalated significantly. This particularly covered how to protect clients and ensure that care would continue in a safe manner.
She also foresaw the increasing need for PPE. Despite having no previous experiencing of managing and procuring PPE, Michelle volunteered herself to that role. Using guidance from the Centre for Disease Control, she determined the best kind of PPE and the simplest way of accessing it.
Michelle was part of Home Instead’s COVID taskforce, leading the way in monitoring the progress of the virus and ensuring that government guidance was understood and disseminated. No franchise office went without the PPE they needed, and clients continued to receive care without compromising on their safety.
Her forward thinking meant that Home Instead went about planning for the pandemic the right way: proactively preparing for it and not reacting once it hit. She continues to play a key role ensuring that clients and caregivers stay protected.
