National Homecare Day to return online next week

A celebration of home care provision across the UK will take place online next week.

After launching the inaugural Homecare Day last year, United Kingdom Homecare Association (UKHCA) and Scottish Care will come together once again to showcase the hard work of home care providers and their staff.

Homecare Day 2020 will focus on the theme of ‘Care Community’ and will provide a chance for industry professionals to share good news stories and innovations that demonstrate the difference that domiciliary care services make to the lives of people and their communities every day.

UKHCA is inviting all members to use social media to share their stories using the hashtag #homecareday from 12pm to 1pm on Wednesday, December 9.

Care professionals can also join Dr Jane Townson, CEO of UKHCA, and Donald Macaskill, chief executive of Scottish Care, for a live Twitter chat on the day.

Dr Townson said: “Homecare workers have demonstrated outstanding care, kindness and dedication throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks to their hard work, homecare has proved itself a relatively safe option. Many people have been supported to live well at home which has given families peace of mind when they were restricted from visiting themselves.

“Investing in homecare improves lives and saves money for the health and care system. We will continue to press governments in all of the UK administrations to recognise the value of homecare to society, including its direct and indirect contributions to the economy, and fund it adequately.”
