National charity Dementia UK has launched a new resource to help signpost families with dementia to home care services.
The online information leaflet highlights the options that are available to families to get additional support around the home.
It explains how home carers support people with dementia, how families go about accessing home care, the costs involved and how families can choose the right care service for their loved one.
Dr Hilda Hayo, chief admiral nurse and CEO at Dementia UK, said: “Dementia is an emotionally and practically challenging condition which can become even more so when families decide that they need to have extra help around the home.
“There are in fact a range of options open to families to allow them to live more comfortably but not every option will be suitable for all families. It is therefore important to discuss what would be the most appropriate support.”
Dementia UK provides specialist dementia support for families through admiral nurses.
Through its links to local communities and dementia support networks, they can help families establish and signpost the home care option which is most appropriate for their complex needs.
