New independent living scheme opens in Yorkshire

Housing 21 Yorkshire Extra Care

A new extra care scheme in Helmsley, North Yorkshire, has welcomed its first residents.

Bransdale View was built by Housing 21 in partnership with Ryedale District Council and North Yorkshire County Council as a positive alternative to residential care.

The property is designed to offer independent living for people over the age of 55 with access to on-site care for those who need it.

Residents are able to live in their own apartments and remain part of the community as a result of the scheme’s communal facilities, which includes a café bistro, hair salon, communal lounge and hobby room. The apartments at the property are available for affordable rent and shared ownership.

Chris (pictured) was the first to move into Bransdale View after it opened this month. He said: “After being in hospital for two months I needed somewhere to move to where I could have the extra support when I need it.

“Bransdale View appealed to me as I was originally from the Helmsley area. Here, where I now call home, is comfortable and I am very grateful to all staff and management for organising a comfortable move.”
