NorseCare has announced that its managing director Karen Knight will step down after eight years in the role.
Knight was appointed as NorseCare’s first MD when the business took over the Norfolk County Council’s responsibility for residential and housing with care schemes in August 2011.
She started her career as cleaner in one Norfolk County Council’s residential homes more than 30 years ago, before excelling in a number of senior management roles within child and community services.
During her leadership, NorseCare has become the largest care provider in East Anglia. Its new build programme culminated with £30 million plus developments of housing with care and dementia care schemes, including the Bowthorpe Care Village on the outskirts of Norwich and Lydia Eva Court in Gorleston.
Having achieved CQC ratings of ‘Good’, with five ‘Outstanding’ ratings across all 36 homes and housing with care schemes, Knight has decided that it’s the right time to pursue wider interests and opportunities.
She will remain on the Norse Group Board as an independent non-executive director.
“It has been a real privilege for me to lead a company where everyone’s role has made such a comprehensive contribution to the company’s main success – which has been to improve the quality of support for thousands of people living with us as part of the NorseCare family,” Knight said.
“It has been an extremely rewarding position to be able to work as part of such a high performing service and to be able to influence and make significant changes to improve all aspects of the company. Like the majority of care home providers, NorseCare has faced challenges but working with strong, dedicated teams and amazing colleagues over the past 8 years has been an incredibly fulfilling experience.
“I look forward to my new role on the Norse Group Board and to supporting the Norse Group and other NorseCare developments as we go from strength to strength.”
Martin Rix, NorseCare’s chief operating officer, a long-standing member of the NorseCare executive team, will take on further responsibilities.
