Peter Harrington joined Southampton-based in-home care specialist Nobilis in March 2020 as managing director, before rising to the role of chief executive officer in April 2021.
His brief was to grow existing Nobilis business in its South West heartland, and to expand into new areas through an acquisition programme. He has also instilled new efficiencies and technology to benefit day-to-day business operations, alongside enhanced carer benefits, career and training opportunities.
In 2020, Nobilis doubled in size, acquiring eight in-home care operations. Since the beginning of this year, it has again grown by more than 50%, with an expectation of continuing this trajectory throughout 2021. Acquisitions have seen Nobilis expand into Gloucestershire and the Bristol area, the Isle of White, Buckinghamshire and the East
Harrington has also spearheaded enhanced employment benefits that offer carers good career progression and pay-scales. These include no ‘zero-hour’ contracts and full holiday pay in addition to hourly rates, and a fully-paid induction for all new recruits.
At the beginning of this year, Nobilis launched a training partnership with Paragon Skills to offer employees a new apprenticeship programme to enable the business to attract and retain best-in-class carers and management candidates.
In March this year, Nobilis also launched an industry-first First Aid for Mental Health programme. The Ofqual or SQA Accredited qualification is designed to help employees manage their own mental health, as well as learning to recognise a range of mental health conditions – from stress and anxiety to depression, bi-polar disorder and drug or alcohol abuse – and to learn about the support or therapy available from professional providers.
