Professor Martin Green’s contribution to social care in this country is immeasurable and his inclusion in the 2021 Power List is an appropriate recognition of an inspirational, honest man who has the moral courage and backbone to speak out and make tough choices without fear or favour.
Martin is highly respected within the social care sector, within government and within academia. He is recognised internationally and often hosts overseas delegations to help them understand the UK social care system.
Martin is the champion of new innovations and led the way in introducing new technology to the sector. He supports businesses, both large and small, and personally champions best practice.
The respect Martin demands was never more evident as during the recent global Covid-19 pandemic. On local soil, independent care operators relied heavily on his tireless efforts to ensure they received the same recognition and privileges as the NHS by ensuring a continuous flow of information on the latest guidelines and financial support from government.
Martin played an eminent role in building up the morale of the independent sectors’ care staff by ensuring the community at large realise the importance of health care assistants’ and nurses’ contribution to keep the country’s vulnerable citizens safe in residential care and nursing homes, as well as those depending on care in the community.
Both the national press and politicians from all sides of the spectrum acknowledged his wisdom and influence and used him as a sounding board and advisor on health and social care. His efforts will ensure that history gets recorded correctly about the role the independent care sector played during one of the biggest global challenges of our time.
