Two health and social care entrepreneurs have launched a new live-in care service in Scotland, creating 100 jobs.

Gavin Stedman-Bryce and Louis Stedman-Bryce, the businessmen behind Beyond Homecare and Pajoma, a consultancy service for global care charities, have launched Kairos Home Health in response to Scotland’s ageing population.

The new round-the-clock service is designed to offer an alternative to care homes, providing one-to-one care for elderly people who wish to remain at home for as long as possible.

Kairos Home Health will generate 100 new jobs across Central Scotland and will be operated from offices in East Lothian and Glasgow.

The launch is being supported by a national TV advertising campaign which goes live today.

Gavin said: “Data shows that there are around 40,000 older people living in residential care across Scotland right now, and many of these people may have ended up in care homes as their families weren’t aware of all the options available to them.

“Louis and I created this service as we know instinctively that many adults with support needs would choose to stay at home with help from a service like ours.  I speak to people every day who think a care home is their only option, so we are helping families realise that there are other options, including a service like ours.

“As a complement to providing care services, we can provide families with information on the best options available to them.  We see Kairos Home Health as a facilitator and a conduit for people who need advice.”

Gavin and his husband Louis established Pamoja in 2008 to provide expert consulting to not-for-profit organisations, such as Care UK.

Eight years later, they launched Beyond Homecare, a domiciliary company serving adults across Scotland. Gavin is the COO of the company and sits on the board of directors of the United Kingdom Homecare Association, where he is the representative for Scotland.

Louis is the CEO of the care provider, which currently carries out over 10,000 customer care visits each month.

For Kairos Home Health, one of its most important services is matching carers to clients.

Gavin said: “People are our best assets, they are companions as well as carers.  As a service, we provide continuity of care, so it’s vitally important that we bring in the right people for our clients.

“We are investing in a 100-strong team and have been working on the recruitment process for a few months now to ensure that we are selecting the right people to fit with the ethos and values of the business.

“We ensure the selection process for our carers is rigorous. All potential new recruits go through a five day induction programme, where their skills and ability to perform the role to a high standard are assessed, and only those who pass this go on to join our team.”
