Skills for Care Registered Managers Network celebrates award

Skills for Care Stoke on Trent

Skills for Care’s Stoke-on-Trent Registered Managers Network is celebrating after winning a Professional Dignity Champion award.

The award was presented at the virtual Staffordshire County Council Dignity in Care Awards and recognised professionals for championing the concept of dignity in their role.

Andrew Jepps, assistant director for Care Commissioning at Staffordshire County Council, said the Stoke-on-Trent team had worked tirelessly through the pandemic to support fellow managers and each other with compassion, kindness, dignity and humour – providing moral support, expertise and practical help and resources for other managers.

The nominees for all awards were reviewed by a panel, including Jan Burns, Chair of the Dignity Council, who selected the winners.

The Stoke-on-Trent Registered Managers Network, started five years ago as a small group and has since grown to a larger network of around 70 members.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic the network has continued to meet virtually, as well as having a WhatsApp group, providing emotional and practical support in these challenging times. All members of the group also receive regular communications even when unable to attend meetings.

The network chairs – Lesley Flatley, Amanda Cain, Lesley Kokai, and administrator Kelly Tomlinson – are active in other sector projects, including speaking at conferences and working closely with Skills for Care.

Speaking of the award win, the network chairs said: “We are all absolutely thrilled to have won the Dignity in Care Award.

“Our group came together to offer support and mutual respect, and this has been especially important during the pandemic.  Members didn’t have to reach out as we reached out to them.  We now have a bond that can’t be broken. Winning the award validates all of the hard work that we have done.”
