Care providers in England are being encouraged to register with the Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT) by September 30.
Although not mandatory, the CQC expects registered care providers in England to register with the DSPT. The government has also asked providers to engage with the DSPT as part of the Winter Plan for adult social care.
If you have already registered on the DSPT, you do not need to do anything, and if you are not CQC-registered, you do not have to complete the DSPT, but may choose to do so as good practice.
United Kingdom Homecare Association is also encouraging its members to register with the toolkit.
The DSPT is an online self-assessment tool that allows organisations to measure their performance against the National Data Guardian’s 10 data security standards.
Organisations can use the toolkit to provide assurance that they are practising good data security and that personal information is handled correctly.
